8 of the best golf courses in Denver, Colorado

If you’re looking for a list of some of the best golf courses in Denver, officially the highest city in all of the United States, you would be right to have lofty demands and expectations.

Luckily for you, there are many public golf courses in the ‘Mile High City’ and its surrounding area for you to choose from. That’s where we come in.

Let’s see what we have gathered together below as our ‘8 of the best golf courses in Denver’ to help guide you towards a round you’ll never forget.

Fossil Trace Golf Club

As one of the best public golf courses in Denver, Fossil Trace has a unique and challenging layout that includes elevation changes, large rock formations and, quite majestically, crumbling ruins that are in play throughout the course.

One of Denver’s premier public golf courses, it has also been ranked at number 2 in the “Best New Affordable Courses in America” back in 2003.

Given its reasonable pricing, many golfers have been lucky enough to encounter Fossil Trace’s spectacular water features which are in play in seven separate holes. We’d expect that many will have been a lot closer than they would have liked.

And, in case you were wondering, the course was named in honour of the many dinosaur fossils which have been found in the area.

City Park Golf Course

Tee Times in the US

There are few golf courses in Denver which provide a more relaxing round of golf than that which can be enjoyed at this pristine urban track. Take it easy as you plot your way around this relatively easy golf course (easy when compared to others in the area) and soak in the best panoramic skyline views in the city.

The course is regularly in exceptional shape for a what is a public facility, and the Tomas Bendelow design has been part of inner-city life since 1913.

Green Valley Ranch

Tee Times in the US

This is a semi-private golf club of truly exceptional standard and certainly ranks as one of the best golf courses in Denver, Colorado.

With seven separate tee areas, the full course length varies from 7,042 yards to 4,935 from the ladies’ tees. The fairways are generous but are significantly narrowed by the intelligent bunkering throughout.

If you’re brave enough to take on the course from its tips, make sure you leave nothing on the tee as solid shots will be required to carry areas of natural wetland.

Make sure you stay straight though or you will find the tall native grass that flanks many of the target fairways.

Arrowhead Golf Club

Arrowhead Golf Club is well worth the drive southwest of Denver to the gorgeous Roxborough Park area. Visitors will enjoy this scenic Robert Trent Jones Jr design right at the foothills of the Rocky Mountains, and will certainly not be disappointed by the quality of the golf amenities on offer.

Enjoy the breath-taking beauty of red sandstone rocks in gorgeous formation while you plot your way around Arrowhead - it really is an experience to behold.

A variety of dramatic elevation changes and interesting holes adds further to this enchanting golf course’s appeal. It’s no wonder this is one of the most photographed golf courses in all of the USA.

The Ridge at Castle Pines North

This Tom Weiskopf design is truly breathtaking and, with it, an award winning golf course just south of Denver in Colorado.

Nestled in at the foothills of the Front Range of the Rockies, it meanders through forests of Gambel Oaks and Ponderosa Pines, while its backdrop includes the wonderful Pike’s Peak, Devil’s Head and Mount Evans.

The Ridge has two very different nines: the front is hilly and open, with the back flatter and more secluded.

You are guaranteed a wonderful golfing experience at this golf course situated just north of Denver. It has been a public facility since 1999 and the Championship course winds its way through a local residential community.

This one has the ability to test golfers of every skill level with undulating greens, 63 sand-traps and water hazards in play on 11 of the 18 holes.

Tee Times in the US

Colorado National is widely regarded as one of the best golf courses in the area in and around Denver, Colorado.

The layout is set upon an expansive site totalling 232 acres, while it makes excellent use of the backdrop mountain views of Long Peak and Mount Meekers. With elevation changes, deviously positioned bunkering and water hazards throughout, you will need to bring your A-game to prevail with anything close to a respectable score.

Golf Club at Bear Dance

We have to find space on our list for a facility which was named ‘Best Denver Golf Course’ in 2016 and that, indeed, was Bear Dance.

Home to the Colorado PGA, it is situated south of Denver and provides the best mountain golf experience you could hope to find anywhere. Meandering through 753 acres of mountainous terrain, the course has an average elevation of 6,800 feet and has been named the ‘Best golf course on the Front Range’ of the Rockies back in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
