Top 10 Best Golf Shots in 2017

Not a year goes by without a collection of golf shots that defy logic and make us all sit open-mouthed in sheer wonderment - 2017 was no different.

With that in mind, we got to thinking that we should really pull together a compilation of the most impressive shots this year. Given that the standard of golf by the world's best players over the past twelve months has been nothing short of astonishing, it was quite the task.

So then, what have we finally decided upon as our definitive list of the best shots in 2017? Check out the list below.

Jon Rahm - Farmers Insurance Open

Winning your first professional tournament is always going to be a big deal, but when you get the job done by draining a 60-foot eagle putt to capture the lead on the 72nd hole – well, it just doesn’t get any better than that.

Such a pumped celebration too.

Sergio Garcia - 2017 Masters

Sergio was running out of holes when he stepped on to the 15th tee-box and knew that he would have to make his move soon if that elusive first major was to come his way.

He went for the green in two after a gorgeous drive and set up a short eagle putt that would help turn the screw on the leader, Justin Rose. The putt dropped and the crowd were in raptures.

Jordan Spieth - Travelers Championship

Locked in a gargantuan tussle with his fellow 'Class of 2011' graduate Daniel Berger, Jordan Spieth holed-out in dramatic fashion from the greenside bunker during the playoff at this year's Travelers Championship.

Cue scenes, and a highlight reel chest-bump with caddie Michael Greller.

Jon Rahm - Irish Open

During a rather rainsoaked Irish Open at Portstewart Golf Club, Jon Rahm holed-out for eagle from 150 yards on his way to the second win of his short professional career.

The victory at the DDF Irish Open would also help the young Spaniard claim the Rookie of the Year title on the European Tour. Catch the highlights below:

Jordan Spieth - Open Championship

Watch Jordan Spieth's reaction to his wayward drive on the 13th hole of his final round at Royal Birkdale and you will soon realise that he performed a Houdini-like escape act to card no worse than a bogey-five.

The 3-wood from the driving range was right out of the top drawer, but also a testament to his mental strength and clarity of thought when under the utmost pressure.

Justin Thomas - WGC-Mexico

Standing on the 13th hole during his third round in Mexico City, Thomas hit a stunning six-iron tee shot to the 232-yard par 3. It looked dialled in from early on and hit the middle of the green before pounding into the centre of the cup for Thomas’ second ace in his short professional career to date.

Matt Kuchar - 2017 Masters

If anyone was going to ace the 16th at Augusta National we're not sure there would be any more popular candidates than Matt Kuchar.

While many eyes were fixed firmly upon the ongoing tussle between Sergio Garcia and Justin Rose a few holes back, Kuchar made sure that Masters Sunday didn’t pass without a raucous rendition of ‘KKKUUUCCCHHH’.

Dustin Johnson - The Northern Trust

It's usually tricky for a drive from the tee-box to make it on to list of best shots in any given year but, with that said, Dustin Johnson's drive on the first playoff hole helped provide an awesome climax to proceedings at The Northern Trust in New York.

Not many players in the game could take that highly-ambitious line over the water and set up a 'flick of a wedge' to the elevated green.

DJ can, so DJ did.

Justin Thomas - US Open

On his way to posting a record-breaking (in relation to par) 63 during his third round at Erin Hills during this year's U.S. Open, Justin Thomas nailed an unbelievable 3-wood from 299 yards to set up an eagle try.

Of course, he duly obliged.

Jhonattan Vegas (Honda Classic)

Vegas elected to use a 6-iron on the opening hole of the infamous ‘Bear Trap’- the 179-yard 15th hole. With the Venezuelan having landed his tee shot a mere 6 feet from the pin, the ball then arrowed into the hole for a glorious hole in one.
