Masters 2019 Preview & Full Tee Times

Praise be to the Golfing Gods... Masters week is finally here. After eight gloomy months within a bleak majorless wilderness (we might be over-dramatising a little there) the greatest golfers on the planet get ready to do battle once more upon the hallowed fairways of Augusta National.

One of the most famous golf courses in the game needs no introduction to the avid golfer. It is, of course, the home of the most highly anticipated golf major of the year but it is also a truly spectacular golf course in its own right. Boasting a genuinely memorable layout with unrivalled terrain and backdrop views, Augusta National is about as aesthetically pleasing as golfing venues come.

One change made to the course comes at the par-4 fifth hole which will measure an additional 40 yards this year. It now plays as a highly demanding uphill 495-yard hole which doglegs to the left around two deep bunkers.

All 18 holes contrast perfectly to provide a stern test for every golfer in the field which all culminates in a truly deserving champion emerging from the pack to be crowned champion on Masters Sunday. Amen Corner

This devilish trio of holes offers up some of the most dramatic golf during the four days at Augusta National. A term that was originally coined to encompass every shot from the approach shot on the 11th hole to the tee shot on the 13th - it is now used universally to include every blow on each of the three holes.

Amen Corner is every inch the potential card wrecker the name would suggest. Check it out in greater detail below...

2018's Champion: Patrick Reed

Reed captured his first major at last year's tournament when playing in his fifth Masters and having finished outside the top-20 in each of his previous five attempts.

Shooting a 1-under-par 71 to finish at -15, he finished a single shot ahead of Rickie Fowler and two ahead of Jordan Spieth.

The Field

Much of the pre-tournament chat has centred around the recent play of Rory McIlroy and his chances of donning that ever-elusive Green Jacket. The four-time major winner is a worthy favourite this year but there are plenty other contenders in the field.

Last year Brooks Koepka missed the Masters due to injury and then went on to win two of the remaining three majors. For that reason alone he would have to be considered as being in with a reasonable chance this week.

Dustin Johnson has two wins under his belt already this year and will be primed for another tilt at Masters glory, while Tiger Woods will feel better-placed to compete with more golfing miles on the clock since his much-heralded return to the game.

Phil Mickelson could make Masters history with a win this week as, at 48 years of age, he would become the oldest winner of a Green Jacket ousting Jack Nicklaus who currently holds the record.

Who wins it?

There's no getting away from the fact that Rory McIlroy is playing the best golf in the field and it's hard not to add to the masses of other predictions for the Northern Irishman to complete the career grand slam this time around.
