We're often asked for our opinion on the best golf courses to play. We're fortunate that we can defer to a group of golfers that have experienced many courses from around the world - you guys, our Hole19 users. Hole19 golfers cast their votes with their feet, and by rating their experience of the course in their app after a round.
Here are the top 10 courses in Costa del Sol as played by our favourite people...Hole19 golfers:
Santana Golf & Country Club - 4.4 out of 5 stars
The most played course in the Costa del Sol amongst Hole19 Golfers, Santana Golf & Country Club is a technically demanding course set within a former avocado plantation. To shoot a solid score takes accuracy from tee to green and challenge golfers across their entire bag.
Villa Padierna Golf Club (Flamingos) 4.6 out of 5
At number two on the list of our golfer's favoured courses in the Costa del Sol is Villa Paiderna; well known for its meticulous landscaping, pristine conditioning and beautiful sea views. Having hosted a number of prestigious pro-golfing events, it's certain to provide a tough but memorable round.
Alhaurín Golf 3.8 out of 5
Nestled in the foothills of the Sierra de Mijas and the third placed spot on our list is Alhaurín Golf Club. Set amongst lush greenery and wide open spaces, Alhaurín overlooks the Natural Park and World Biosphere Reserve of Sierra de las Nieves.
Río Real Golf 4.4 out of 5
Ideally located at just 5-minutes outside of the busy Marbella city centre, Río Real is the perfect course for anyone looking to golf with ease. Designed by the legendary Javier Arana, considered the best Spanish designer of all time, its numerous elevated tee and pin positions will challenge golfers across their entire bag.
Marbella Club Golf Resort 4.5 out of 5
Boasting spectacular views across of Gibraltar, the African Coastline, the Mediterranean and the surrounding mountains, Marbella Club Golf provides the most picturesque a round of golf that you could find in Europe. Plus, on the front nine you'll encounter a unique experience - 3 par 5 holes back to back!
La Cala Resort Campo America (North) 4.4 out of 5
With views of the Sierra de Ojén and the Mediterranean Sea, Campo America is a driver friendly course with wide fairways and few fairway bunkers to contend with...although, at times, golfers will need to carry their drive 100yards+ to carry some fairly steep and brush covered slopes.
Alcaidesa Links Golf Resort (Heathland) 4.0 out of 5
The Heathland Golf Course at Alcaidesa Links Golf Resort was designed by former Ryder Cup player Dave Thomas and offers a diverse and beautiful array of natural scenery incorporating wide fairways and meandering water hazards.
Alcaidesa Links Golf Resort (Links) 4.4 out of 5
As the only links course in southern Europe, the Links Course at Alcaidesa Links Golf Resort is an extremely popular golfing venue. You'll play most of the holes flanked by the beach and if you can tear your eyes from the stunning sea views, the inland scenery is equally as impressive. As with any links course, the challenge here is presented by the prevailing winds and golfers will need to have their wits about them to come away with a good score and all the golf balls they started the round with.
Miraflores Golf Club 4.0 out of 5
Miraflores Golf Club is situated right in the heart of the Costa del Sol, making it an inviting option for travelling golfers looking to play as many venues as they can before they leave. The flowing, valley course provides a friendly but challenging experience.
Real Club de Golf Guadalmina (Sur)
4.3 out of 5
Know for its tough layout and hard pin positions, the South course at Real Club de Golf Guadalmina is by its own admission for "experienced players". With narrow, tree-lined fairways the course is a daunting prospect from the tee and demanding of accuracy right up to the green.
