Scottie Scheffler 2022 Masters Champion (& 5 Major Takeaways)

Another year passes, and once again, The Masters has entertained every golf fan with four days of outstanding golf from the world's best golfers. From start to finish it delivered many great stories and, when all was said and done, we watched the crowning of a thoroughly deserving 2022 Masters champion.

Here at Hole19 HQ, we loved every moment of the year's first major championship and were delighted to see Scottie Scheffler close out a first major title and consolidate his position as world number one in the process.

Scheffler imperious

Ladies and Gentlemen, your 2022 Masters champion is Scottie Scheffler.

In one of the most dominant displays by a Masters champion in recent years, the Dallas native quickly took a firm grip on the season's first major and finished the week as the only man to break par on all four days.

Double-bogeying the final hole probably wasn't what he had hoped for, but offer any golfer a four-putt on 18 to win the Masters by three, and they're snapping your hand off.

After his three-shot victory, he now has four wins in his last six events - an almost Tiger-esque accomplishment. Given that he finished inside the top-10 of each of the other 3 major championships in 2021, further major success could follow before the year's out.

Tiger's St Andrews bound

While watching Tiger Woods tee it up on Thursday, we couldn't help but marvel at his determination to make the 86th Masters field despite his horrific car crash just 14 months previous.

Few of us will ever truly know just how much blood, sweat and tears went into Tiger's most recent return, but he defied many expectations to finish his first round at -1 and ultimately make the cut.

Of course, the weekend didn't pan out as he had hoped, but the 15-time major champion later confirmed he would be attending the historic 150th Open Championship at the home of golf, St Andrews. 💪

Rory's Sunday show

Rory McIlroy's charge up the leaderboard on Masters Sunday is becoming a pretty regular occurrence. His breathtaking 64 will live long in the memory, particularly after he holed out when in the greenside bunker, sparking incredible scenes on the 18th.

Whatever he's doing during the final round seems to be working. Next year, a Masters Sunday mindset from Thursday to Saturday could be the approach to (finally) complete the career grand slam.

Golden Bell wreaks havoc

The 12th hole at Augusta National is one of the prettiest par-3s on the planet. It's also one of the most destructive. For confirmation, just ask Cameron Smith.

After securing a birdie on 11, the Aussie bounced to the infamous 12th hole looking to continue his pursuit of Scheffler's lead. Frustratingly, his tee shot found the water, and he missed the green with his third en route to a triple-bogey six.

Scheffler tidied up for his par, and just like that, Golden Bell had dashed another golfer's Masters dream.

Stewart 'Cinks it'

We love holes-in-one at Augusta National, and there have been quite a few over the years - 34, in fact. The hole that has yielded the most aces is No.16 (24), so it was no surprise when one duly arrived during Friday's second round.
